Who all can become a surrogate mother in Russia?

In line to the section 10 of Article 55 of Russian federation law regarding health protection normative, a surrogate mother must be:

• coming in the age group of 20 –35 years with healthy body and mind

• having her own child in the past

• coming with a permission from the husband to involve in the surrogacy program

• following a healthy diet and routine with no addiction to alcohol or smoking

Is egg donation allowed in Russia?

Generally, the surrogate mother needs to use the eggs of the intended mother for the surrogacy process in Russia. Still, in cases where the intended mother cant lend her eggs (due to random infertility issues), utilizing an egg donor or services from an egg donor agency is allowed. The similar option, however, is not applicable in the case where a single woman is pursuing surrogacy in Russia.

According to Russian surrogacy law, only two egg donor profiles are considered as legal in the country:

- Anonymous donor: The egg donor’s identity is not disclosed to the intended parents, except certain features and characteristics of the egg donor in few of the cases.

- Known donors: The intended parents and the egg donor are known to each other and the situation is mostly applicable to gestational surrogacy cases when the close friends and family members are involved.

We must mention here that most of the best surrogacy agencies in Russia offer anonymous egg donation programs.

The cost of surrogacy in Russia depends on lots of aspects like the IVF cycle involved, cost of egg donor or sperm donor and so on. Still, the surrogacy cost in Russia would come in the middle of $35,000 and $55,000.
